Project Manager, Essex County Board of Commissioners

Shepherd legislation through channels before being voted on by
Oversee computer department to protect servers; upgrade all technology,including software and hardware
Managed ten major events held by the commissioners, including its largest event of 25,000 people,the largest free concert in New Jersey.
Developed the first County Commissioner app, also the first in the nation; developed the county’s paperless legislation program to increase the time sent processing and voting on legislation, which has led to a 45% decrease in the purchase of paper.
Redesigned the county commissioner’s website and the nation’s first searchable historical database to decrease the amount of OPEA requested.
Legislative Director, State Senator Ronald L. Rice
Over saw creating and reviewing legislation on behalf of the Senator; worked with the Senate Majority office to determine bills that would affect as well as benefit voters of the 28th legislative district.
Drafted 178 pieces of legislation that were signed by the Governor and became law of the State of New Jersey. Major accomplished bills included:
$1 billion for recreational and infrastructure for facilities in urban
Oversight bills to develop databases to protect low moderate middle household from evictions during COVID-19. Built in safeguards against evictions.
Bill to cover burials assistance for families during COVID
Provided funding for replacement of lead pipes
Decriminalization of cannabis
Took charge of the Senator’s re-election
Executive Director, New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus
Worked in support of Chairman, State Senator Ronald L. Rice
Monitored key legislation at the municipal, county, and state levels affecting women, minorities, and the working poor.
Over saw 400 black elected officials from school board members to congress
Developed two redistricted maps to increase the number of women and minority elected
Helped increase the number of African-Americans in the State Senate from 2 to 7
President, Communication Workers of America local 1039
Represented 6,000 members in public and private sector employment, including state government, telecommunications, and the taxi industry.
Increased overall membership by37%; negotiated contracts for 36,000 stateworkers under civil service laws; negotiated contracts under the National Labor Relations Act, and the National Railroad Act.
National Youth Chairman, United States Track & Field
Served as the national chair of USA Track and Field, the governing body of track and field in the world
Oversaw the largest youth program in the world with over 86,000 athletes from the ages of 8 to 18
Increased membership from 56,000 to 86,000 athletes during my term,while becoming the longest serving national chairman and the first African-American national chairman of a governing body.
Developed the nation's first drug testing policy for student athletes that became a formula used by other countries federations.
Developed the National Youth indoor championships which now host over 3,000 athletes
Oversaw 37 national championships, the largest track and field championship in the world with over 11,000 athletes over the course of seven days that brought in $62 million of economic impact to Wichita KS.
Became a member of the board of directors of USA Track and Field and the youngest member to ever serve on this prestigious board.
Outreach Director, United States Senate
Served as front-line liaison between Senate New Jersey office and local constituents in the northern and central part of New Jersey.
Key member of team that forged productive working relationships with diverse elected officials on both sides of the aisle from all 500 municipalities.
Worked with and developed constructive relationship with United States Senator Hillary Clinton’s office on federal legislation on student loan debt reduction.
Created directional flight patterns leading to Teterboro Airport, preventing major noise disturbance to three Bergen County municipalities.
Developed a statewide labor committee comprised of public sector and building trade
Created the Senator’s Black History program, the largest such program in New Jersey
Stepped up as Field Director for Menendez re-election
Regional and State Director, NAACP National Voter Fund
Worked under the direction of The Honorable Julian Bond,oversaw voter registration, voter education, and voter turnout efforts; increased minority turnout in 40 states, as well as elected officials on the federal guidelines 501(C)4 and 527 guidelines.
Created two new African-American state legislative districts; registered 36,000 new registered voters for the 2004 election cycle.
Appointed to the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Commission by Governor James McGreevey. Was only African-American on the Commission that was charged to create new voter protection and laws to protect voters in New Jersey.
Staff Rep, Communication Workers of America Local 1037
Represented stateworkers in New Jersey State departments of public defender and childwelfare, handling grievances disciplines and community organizing.
Led and organized three drives which added an additional 1,200 members to the local.
